COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

In February, 64 new cases of the virus were reported in the region

No new COVID-19 cases have been reported by the Porcupine Health Unit yet today.

To date, there have been 339 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 298 are recovered and 25 people have died. There are 16 known active cases — one in the Kapuskasing area, 10 in Moosonee and Moose Factory, and five in the Hearst, Hornepayne area.

In February, there were 64 cases and 10 deaths in the region. The case count is down from January when 145 cases were confirmed. Around 10,700 tests were done locally in February.

Ontario Public Health reported 1,023 new cases of COVID-19 today, as well as 939 new recoveries and six deaths. There are 10,570 active cases in the province, which is up from 10,492 yesterday.

Timmins and area remain in the orange restriction level of the province's COVID-19 Response Framework. The restrictions are reviewed every two weeks, with the last announcement being made Friday, Feb. 26.

There is currently a high-risk COVID-19 exposure advisory for passengers on two Ontario Northland buses Wednesday, Feb. 24. It affects routes from Toronto to Sudbury, and Sudbury to Timmins. More details are available here

Porter Airlines has pushed back its date to resume flights. The new date is May 19, however, that could change if vaccinations don't accelerate. The full story is available here
