COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

There are no new COVID-19 cases or recoveries being reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today.

To date there have been 82 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 68 are recovered, and nine people have died. There are five known active cases of the virus in the region.

The health unit is aware of 23,184 tests being done locally, which is an increase of 598 from Friday's report.

In the past week, 1,683 tests have been done in the region. That's an increase from the week prior when 1,189 test were completed.

Public Health Ontario reported 700 new cases today, which is the highest single-day increase ever in the province. To-date, Public Health Ontario has confirmed 50,531 cases of COVID-19 and reported 2,840 deaths and 43,127 recoveries. 

Premier Doug Ford said the sharp increase in cases today is "deeply concerning." He said health officials are also confirming that Ontario is now experiencing a 'second wave' of the virus. Read the full story here.
