No new COVID-19 cases and one recovery was reported by the Porcupine Health Unit today.

To date, there have been 65 confirmed COVID-19 cases. Of those, 53 are resolved and six people have died. The health unit is following six known active cases.

This week, only one new case of the virus was reported, which is a drop from the week prior when four cases were confirmed. There was, however, a sixth virus-related death in the area this week, and four cases have been resolved.

The health unit is aware of 4,274 tests being done locally, which is an increase of 71 from the last report. There are 265 tests under investigation. In the past week, 1,162 tests were done. This does not include the testing numbers for the surveillance at long-term care homes.

The last positive test was reported Monday, May 11 and was a resident at Extendicare Timmins. An outbreak of the virus was declared and is the second at the facility since the start of the pandemic.

The case was identified through the surveillance of long-term care that has staff and residents being tested. Testing is complete at all 10 long-term care facilities in the region and has led to three outbreaks being declared. The others are at the Golden Manor in Timmins and South Centennial Manor in Iroquois Falls. Workers at the emergency child care centres have also been tested.

For the local confirmed cases, 41 have been in Timmins. Of those, 32 cases are resolved and four people have died. There have been 23 cases in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls, and Smooth Rock Falls. Of those, 20 are resolved and two people have died. There has been one case in the area of Kapuskasing, Opasatika, Val Rita-Harty, Moonbeam, and Fauquier-Strickland and it is resolved.

Public Health Ontario reported an increase of 340 (1.5 per cent) of lab-confirmed COVID-19 cases today. In total, there have been 22,653 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the province. Of those 17,360 people have recovered (76.6 per cent), and 1,881 people have died (8.3 per cent).
