COVID-19: Here's the situation in Timmins today

A state of emergency has been declared in Timmins. 

At today's daily health table, Mayor George Pirie talked about why it's being declared now, and revealed the worst-case scenario COVID-19 numbers for the City of Timmins.

In the Porcupine Health Unit region, which includes Timmins and the surrounding area, there are 28 confirmed COVID-19 cases.

As of this morning, the health unit is aware of 387 tests submitted locally. Of those, 28 have been positive and 314 were negative. They are waiting on the results of 45 tests. Five positive cases have been resolved.

Ontario’s COVID-19 daily cases have once again topped previous daily records with another 462 reported today. The total number of lab-confirmed cases for the province is now 3,255. There are now 1,023 cases resolved and 67 reported deaths in Ontario. There have been 66,753 people tested in Ontario and there are 1,245 tests still in progress.

Public Health Ontario has made some dire projections for the impact of COVID-19 in the province, revealing that under current intervention methods, Ontario could see as many as 80,000 cases of COVID-19 with a projection of 1,600 deaths due to the virus.

The province is under a fire ban until further notice. Ontario announced the measures to reduced the number of human-caused fired and reduce the risk of forest fires yesteray. The changes took effect today.
