COVID-19: Here's the situation in the Timmins area today

No new cases have been reported by the Porcupine Health Unit yet today. 

This week, there have been three confirmed new cases — two in the Hearst area, and one in Moosonee. 

To date, there have been 342 cases in the region. Of those, 305 are recovered and 25 people have died. There are 12 known active cases — five in Moosonee, Moose Factory, one in the Kapuskasing area, and six in the Hearst area. 

The Porcupine Health Unit region remains at the orange - restrict level of the provincial COVID-19 Response Framework. Starting Monday, March 8, the Timiskaming Health Unit region is moving to the orange level as well. More details are available here

Public Health Ontario reported 1,250 new COVID-19 cases today. The report also included 1,159 recoveries and 22 new deaths. Public Health Ontario has confirmed 306,007 cases of the virus since the start of the pandemic, and reported 288,583 recoveries and 7,046 deaths, of which 3,873 were individuals living in long-term care homes.

Timmins and District Hospital has started using SeamlessMD, a digital engagement platform. The technology was launched through Ontario Health's Surgical Transitions initiative to "rapidly implement pre- and post-op monitoring technology for safer surgical transitions from hospital to home during the COVID-19 pandemic," according to the announcement. The City of Timmins is receiving an additional $596,662 from the province. It brings the total amount of COVID-19 relief funding the city has received from upper levels of government to $3.98 million.

A COVID-19 outbreak was declared at Kirkland Lake Gold's Macassa Mine this week. At least five employees have been confirmed cases so far. 

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
