Ontario is reporting 211 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 this morning, which is the highest number of confirmed cases reported in a single day so far.
The province is now also reporting 21 deaths attributed to COVID-19, though in two of those cases the cause of death is not lab-confirmed.
There are now 1,355 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Ontario and there remain eight reported recoveries from the virus.
Recovery is only reported if the patient has two negative test results within 24-hours of each other.
Since Friday, the province has forgone posting a list of cases with details of the patient’s location, age, gender, and status and has instead reported information on all cases is “pending.”
To date, the Porcupine Health Unit is aware of 253 local COVID-19 tests being submitted. Of those, 10 are positive, 158 are negative, and they're waiting on the results of 85.
The daily reported cases in the province have more than doubled since Wednesday when it first reported triple digits (100 confirmed cases). Thursday the cases jumped to 170, on Friday there was a small drop to 135, and yesterday the province reported 151 lab-confirmed cases.
There remains a lag between testing and lab-confirmations of anywhere between two to seven days.
According to Ontario Health, there are 7,203 tests currently under investigation, and there have been 49,186 patients approved for COVID-19 testing in Ontario to date.
Those with mild symptoms and no history of travel or close contact with a confirmed case are, for the most part, not being tested. So the number of positive COVID-19 cases is likely higher than the 1,355 reported by the province.
