More than a month after an outbreak was declared at Extendicare Kapuskasing, all the cases are resolved, according to the facility.

Today, the long-term care home reported no new COVID-19 cases. All of the previously reported cases have been declared resolved and there are no active cases connected to the home in residents or staff, according to the facility update.

An outbreak of the virus was declared at the home Jan. 7. Since then, there have been about 70 confirmed cases, and 16 residents died.

"We would like to thank all families and friends across our community for your patience, support and understanding as we’ve worked to clear our home of COVID-19," reads the update.

"We would also like to thank our dedicated front line staff and health partner colleagues who have worked tirelessly to fight this outbreak from day one, while remaining focused on caring for our residents throughout. We will continue to work with Porcupine Health Unit on next steps for our home, as we continue to closely monitor our status in the days ahead."

The team from Timmins and District Hospital and Extendicare COVID operations unit staff remain on site.

"All residents continue to be monitored closely, including through ongoing medical assessments," reads the statement.
