Public Health Ontario is reporting 344 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is a 1.3 per cent increase in the total number of confirmed cases in the province.
The province is also reporting 41 new deaths related to the coronavirus. The most recent victims reported include 12 people between the ages of 60 and 79 and 29 people over the age of 80.
In total, 2,230 people have died from COVID-19 in Ontario, including 1,412 residents living in long-term care homes.
The province has reported 310 additional recoveries since yesterday’s update, bringing the total number of resolved cases to 20,983. There have been 27,210 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Ontario to date.
Since last report, Public Health Ontario notes there have been 18,525 coronavirus tests processed with another 13,351 awaiting results.
There are 826 patients currently hospitalized with COVID-19, including 129 in an intensive care unit and 100 patients on a ventilator.
The Ontario Ministry of Long-Term Care reported today there are now 123 active outbreaks at long-term care homes in Ontario, and those outbreaks have led to 1,625 resident deaths and six staff deaths.
Public Health Ontario also reported there are 91 ongoing outbreaks at retirement homes in the province and 48 ongoing outbreaks at Ontario hospitals.
In total, there have been 300 outbreaks at long-term care homes, 140 outbreaks at retirement homes and 84 outbreaks at hospitals in the province, according to Public Health Ontario.
According to today's report, which includes data from Jan. 15 to May 28, the number of cases at other Northern Ontario health units, as well as the rate of confirmed cases per 100,000 population are:
• Algoma Public Health - 21 cases, rate of 18.4 per 100,000 population
• North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit - 25 cases, rate of 19.3 per 100,000 population
• Porcupine Health Unit - 65, rate of 77.9 per 100,000 population
• Public Health Sudbury and Districts - 62 cases, rate of 31.2 per 100,000 population
• Timiskaming Health Unit - 18 cases, rate of 55.1 per 100,000
• Thunder Bay District Health Unit - 81 cases, rate of 54 per 100,000 population
• Northwestern Health Unit - 22 cases, rate of 25.1 per 100,000 population
According to the report, in Northeastern Ontario, there have been 192 confirmed cases, and the rate is 34.1 per 100,000 population. In Northwestern Ontario, there have been 103 cases and a rate of 43.3. The provincial rate per 100,000 population is 183.1.
