Village Media is searching for a talented reporter and writer to join our expanding Central Newsdesk on a full-time basis. The ideal candidate is a journalist with superior writing and editing skills who thrives in a fast-paced, quick-thinking environment. Although the primary role of our desk reporters is to rewrite press releases and other raw copy, the chosen candidate will also have opportunities to cover breaking news and pitch feature stories.

Village Media’s Newsdesk is headquartered in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, but this can be a remote position. If you’re the perfect person for this job, you can live anywhere you want.

The ideal candidate for this position:

  • Has relevant experience covering hard news—quickly, accurately and intelligently
  • Is a proven multi-tasker who can juggle many assignments a time
  • Thrives in a hectic, unpredictable environment built around tight deadlines
  • Is comfortable writing stories about any beat or subject
  • Understands the vital role of local journalism
  • Loves that every workday offers new and different challenges
  • Will tackle each assignment, big or small, with the same passion and determination
  • Is committed to fairness, accuracy and transparency
