Hydro One Sault Ste. Marie owns 15 transmission stations with approximately 560 km of 44kV to 230kV transmission lines in Canada that comprise an integral component of Ontario’s provincial transmission system that interconnects Northern and Southern areas of the province.
We are seeking a qualified, motivated individual to assume the following position in its operations in the Sault Ste. Marie service area.
POSITION: Grid Operations Field Manager (GOFM)
WORK LOCATION: Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the General Manager or delegate, the GOFM is accountable and responsible for: implementing the business units goals, objectives and strategies by providing leadership, direction and supervision to staff at various worksites within the Maintenance Services Zone; setting and/or meeting targets, developing programs and monitoring the continuous improvement of operations and staff performance; ensuring the administration of procedures, applicable legislation and the collective agreement; developing and monitoring of safety programs; planning, organizing and assigning work to staff as well as developing, implementing and maintaining adequate work methods, procedures and standards; monitoring work progress; ensuring tools and equipment are available and maintained; managing contract work; arranging and overseeing installation and commissioning activities; managing customer relationships; and administering of work protection and creation of safe work zones as specified by the Utility Work Protection Code, system reconfiguration and load control.
As a candidate for this position we prefer you possess the following: a combination of relevant education and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in a technical role, with 5 of those years in a supervisory or leadership position preferably within a union environment; knowledge and experience with electrical theory, including instrumentation and operating characteristics of protection and control and power equipment; good knowledge of finance to monitor financial reports, forecast results and prepare business cases; have the ability to act independently in the event of system trouble or emergency; familiarity with applicable laws, codes, regulations, policies, procedures; strong knowledge of computers and related software; strong skills in written and oral communication, problem solving, planning, prioritizing and organizing; and maintain a valid Class “G” drivers’ license.
