If you're looking to hear more from the Timmins-James Bay candidates, there are a couple of opportunities coming up.

The Timmins Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Meet the Candidates Federal Debate Wednesday, Oct. 2.

The lunch debate is being held at the Porcupine Dante Club from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and has a focus on the business community.

Four of the five candidates are participating. They are NDP Charlie Angus, Liberal Michelle Boileau, Conservative Kraymr Grenke, and PPC Renaud Roy. Green Max Kennedy is unable to attend.

Tickets for the event are $50 plus HST for chamber members, and $65 plus HST for general admission. Lunch is included in the price. You can buy a ticket online here.

The Anti-Hunger Coalition Timmins (ACT) is also hosting an event in partnership with Community Food Centres Canada, the Porcupine Health Unit and Cochrane District Social Planning Council.

“Everyone in Canada should have access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food, and it’s up to all of us to push our elected officials to take action. Four million Canadians, including 1.15 million children, are food insecure and struggle to put food on the table. This is especially true in our area where food costs are $25 per week higher than the provincial average” says Jen Vachon, Executive Director of ACT.

“We want to make sure candidates hear from our community members about how these issues affect their daily lives, and what policies are necessary to create change.”

Eat, Think, Vote is Oct. 7 at the Lord's Kitchen, 85 Spruce St. N., from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

According to ACT, the candidates will talk about food insecurity and accessibility in an open question and answer session, with mingling afterwards. A meal featuring local ingredients will be provided to everyone in attendance.

This week, Conseil de la cooperation de l'Ontario hosted the first local chance for people to see the candidates in action at College Boreal.

The event, which was in French and English, was livestreamed on Facebook, and you catch up on what happened here:
