Most actively traded companies on the TSX

TORONTO — Some of the most active companies traded Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (14,420.36, up 169.27 points.)

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Materials. Up 33 cents, or 4.52 per cent, to $7.63 on 10.9 million shares.

Manulife Financial Corp. (TSX:MFC). Financials. Down three cents, or 0.19 per cent, to $16.06 on 10.6 million shares.

Cenovus Energy Inc. (TSX:CVE). Energy. Down 10 cents, or 2.28 per cent, to $4.28 on 10 million shares.

Baytex Energy Corp. (TSX:BTE). Energy. Down two cents, or 5.19 per cent, to 36.5 cents on 7.7 million shares.

Whitecap Resources Inc. (TSX:WCP). Energy. Down eight cents, or 5.63 per cent, to $1.34 on 7.6 million shares.

Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB). Energy. Up 50 cents, or 1.23 per cent, to $41.17 on 6.8 million shares.

Companies in the news:

The Stars Group Inc. (TSX:TSGI). Up 88 cents, or 2.55 per cent, to $35.39. The Stars Group Inc. says its shareholders have voted overwhelmingly to approve a takeover of the company by Flutter Entertainment plc. The company says 99.99 per cent of the shares voted at the meeting backed the deal. The Stars Group signed a deal last year to be acquired by Flutter Entertainment in a combination that will create one of the world's largest online betting and gambling companies. Flutter shareholders approved the deal earlier this week.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Up 56 cents, or 1.5 per cent, to $38.21. Barrick Gold Corp. says it will pursue all legal avenues to prevent what it's calling the "nationalization without due process" of its Porgera gold mine in Papua New Guinea. Toronto-based Barrick, which is the operator, and Zijin Mining Group of China each own 47.5 per cent of the open pit and underground gold mine. In a news release, Barrick said it applied for an extension of its special mining lease in June 2017 but the government refused to comply and it expired last August.
