PHOTOS: Explore the trails at Hersey year-round

The annual Winter Hiking Day is coming up

There's no shortage of ways to spend a day outdoors.

One of the most popular free spaces to access is the Hersey Lake Conservation Area.

The trails are accessible year-round and users can choose from a variety of hikes. The trails are marked and enjoyed by people of all ages.

On Feb. 19 the Wintergreen Fund for Conservation is hosting its annual Winter Hiking Day at Hersey Lake.

There is a snow yoga hike at 9:30 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., choose from a winter bird-watching, forest education or natural history and ecology hike.

The Timmins Porcupine Search and Rescue will also be doing a winter demonstration and the Timmins Fur Council is giving a presentation.

Pre-registration is required for all of the hikes except natural history and ecology. To register, call 705-360-2660.

The 226-hectare conservation area is owned by the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority. To get there, take Highway 655 to Boychuk Drive and follow the road to the parking area.
