LIVE: Pandemic could last several months, hit its peak by end of spring: Trudeau

Prime minister responds to national COVID-19 projections released Thursday

Update:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that continued public health measures are necessary to minimize the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which could see smaller waves of the virus following the first, most severe wave in the coming months.

Citing projections released earlier today from Canadian public health officials, Trudeau says the pandemic could reach its peak by the end of spring, followed by potential smaller waves of the virus that could last months - a new normal for Canadians until a vaccine is developed.

On Thursday, Canadian public health officials revealed modelling numbers that projected a best-case scenario of anywhere between 11,000 and 22,000 deaths across the country during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic.

Original Story:

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to brief Canadians at 1:00 p.m. on COVID-19 in what has become his daily address from Rideau Cottage.

Village Media will carry the livestream.
