Voter turnout drops in Timmins

Only 43 per cent of eligible people cast a ballot

While the number of people voting at advance polls was up in this election, the overall number of people voting in Timmins dropped.

The unofficial voter turnout for the June 2 Ontario election in Timmins was 43.43 per cent. Of the eligible 33,508 voters, only 14,554 cast a ballot. In the 2018 election, the voter turnout was 48 per cent.

PC George Pirie won the Timmins MPP seat, taking 64.9 per cent (9,450 votes) of the support. Longtime MPP Gilles Bisson received 4,295 votes (29.51 per cent).

New Blue David Farrell received 408 votes, Green Elizabeth Lockhard got 337 and Ontario Provincial Confederation of Regions Party had 64 votes.

The number of people voting in Timmins is on par with the provincial turnout, which was 43.03 per cent, according to Elections Ontario.
