Dubeau, Feldman running for councillor seats

The deadline to register for the upcoming municipal election is Friday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.

With time running out for people to register for the upcoming municipal election, the list of candidates is growing.

Rick Dubeau and Lorne Feldman have thrown their hats in the ring for the councillor positions.

The nomination deadline is this Friday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. for the municipal election being held on Oct. 24.

Dubeau is seeking one of the four Ward 5 (Timmins) seats and Feldman is going for Ward 2 (South Porcupine).

Dubeau was born in Timmins and served with the Timmins Fire Department for over 30 years. He has previously served as a Ward 5 councillor and was unsuccessful in the 2018 election.

Born and raised in Timmins, Feldman returned after graduating from law school in Toronto. He runs BMR Feldman Timber located at the Morris A Feldman Developments, where there's been a growing number of businesses opening. He has previously run for the South Porcupine councillor seat.

He wants to be a strong voice for residents.

"The central focus of my campaign will be on the real needs of hard-working residents in Ward 2 who have and will continue to be the reason why South Porcupine and, for that matter, the entire city has enjoyed the success it has since the early 1900s," said Feldman.

"It is so important that seniors who have built this community,  working families and existing family local businesses that are the engine that drive this economy are provided the affordable and enjoyable lifestyles that they have earned and deserve.

"As elected representatives, we have an obligation to deliver meaningful initiatives that make a real difference in people's lives such as lowering the escalating costs of property taxes water and sewer rates, providing safe communities in which they reside and modern well maintained recreational facilities, parks and lakes where they can enjoy time with family and friends."
