Toronto man facing gun charges following weekend incident in Timmins

Police are looking for other suspects involved in the incident

The Timmins Police Service has charged a Toronto area man with Criminal Code firearm offences stemming from an incident that occurred on during the evening hours of Sunday, Oct. 25 at a Commercial Avenue residence in Timmins.

The Timmins Police Service – Criminal Investigations Division have completed an investigation into an incident where a group of men attended at the residence and brandished firearms during an altercation with the residents of the home.

Officers with the Timmins Police Service who initially responded to the call for service located a man who had gained illegal entry into the home and a loaded handgun in the immediate area where he was located within the residence.

Based on the outcome of the investigation, Xavier Lawrence, 21, of Toronto, has been arrested and charged with: 

  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Possession of a restricted firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Careless storage of a firearm contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The accused person remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.

The investigation into this matter is continuing and led by the Timmins Police Service – Criminal Investigations Division and is focused on identifying and locating other suspects involved in this incident.
