A Porcupine house is a 'total loss' after fire spread from a camper, according to Timmins Fire Department deputy chief Ellard Beaven.

The fire started during the noonhour at the Rekela Street property. Around that time, there were plumes of black smoke coming from the property.

Beaven said the fire started in a trailer, which was parked next to the house, "then progressed to the home, causing some of the siding on the next home to burn."

"The house in question is a total loss. Fortunately the people in the home were able to exit safely," he said.

There were 25 firefighters from Timmins, Whitney and South Porcupine at the scene.

"The fire is under investigation by our fire prevention division and at this time we don't see any indication of a suspicious cause," said Beaven.
