NEWS RELEASE

PORCUPINE HEALTH UNIT

*************************
The Nutrition Department of the Porcupine Health Unit is now using social media to connect with the community.

Caitlin Ellery, Public Health Dietitian says, “We are very excited to be launching our own social media pages. This will be a great way for us to promote and support healthy eating and overall healthy living initiatives in our community.”

The new social media pages can be found on Facebook (PHU Eats) and on Twitter (@PHUEATS).

Health Unit Dietitians will be posting on these pages and monitoring them during business hours.

Anyone can follow these pages for accurate nutrition-related information and interactive discussions around nutrition.

Émilie Leblond, a nutrition student employed at the Health Unit says, “These days, social media is a predominant mode of communication. Facebook and Twitter, two of the widely popular tools used to connect with others through the internet, are now being used by many health units and other organizations as a quick way to spread reliable information.”

The Porcupine Health Unit is located in Northeastern Ontario, serving the entire Cochrane District and Hornepayne, in Algoma District.

The main office is located in Timmins, Ontario, with branch offices in Cochrane, Hearst, Hornepayne, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Matheson, Moosonee, and Smooth Rock Falls.
