Six new fires reported

After yesterdays update, there were six more fires reported.

Chapleau 7 is now out at 0.1 hectares and Chapleau 8 is also out at 0.2 hectares.

Sudbury 48 is being held at 0.5 hectares while Sudbury 49 is not under control at 2.8 hectares.

Sault Ste. Marie 8 is under control at 0.1 hectares and Kirkland Lake 7 is being held at 3.0 hectares.

Sudbury 47 is now out at 0.5 hectares.

By the time of this report four new fires have been reported.

Currently there are 24 active fires in the region, four of which are not yet under control, five that are being held, seven are under control and eight are being observed.

Seven fires were also called out between July 28 and July 29.

The fire hazard for July 29 is considered high to extreme for most of the region.

Only areas near Wawa, the Kawartha lakes and in the far north are seeing a low to moderate hazard.

The following regions are seeing an extreme fire hazards: the Manitouwadge area and extending northward, from Sault Ste. Marie to the Greater Sudbury area and north of Timmins.

All areas not mentioned are seeing a high fire hazard.

Out of Province

Rotation continues in the support of firefighting efforts in western Canada.

Currently there are 165 fire management personnel from Ontario in the following locations - British Columbia (104) and Saskatchewan (61).

Ontario is also providing equipment including fire hose, sprinkler kits, pumps and chainsaws to Alberta, British Columbia, Parks Canada and Saskatchewan.

The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services program is reminding people that they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines set out in the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario including no day burning of brush or grass fires.

Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
