Arrest made in Canadian Tire break-in. Air guns still missing

Police announced this morning they have made an arrest in connection with a break-in that prompted a massive police response to the community's Canadian Tire store.

Heavily-armed police surrounded Canadian Tire for 17 hours on June 17, closing down a large portion of the city’s west end over fears a gunman was holed up following a break-in.

Timmins Police later said it was believed the suspect fled before the building was surrounded.

Police announced today that it has been determined “a quantity of air rifles and air guns” were taken along with several tools worth a total of $2,300.

A 26-year-old Timmins man was charged with break and enter and commit indictable offence (theft), possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and disguise with intent.

The same man faces charges in an earlier break-in at an electronics retailer.

Timmins man charged in connection with Canadian Tire Break & Enter, along with additional retail Break & Enters

A Timmins man is facing multiple charges following an investigation into the June 17, 2015 Break & Enter at Canadian Tire, as well as additional Break & Enters to other retail stores.

Shortly after 4 a.m. on June 17, employees of Canadian Tire attended the store in response to an alarm call.

Upon entering the store, the employees believed the suspect to be in the building, immediately exited, and called police.

Police attended the store at approximately 4:20 a.m. and observed that the firearms cabinet had been breached and that some weapons appeared to be missing.

For officer safety reasons, officers then exited the building to await backup and the building was contained.

With assistance from the Ontario Provincial Police Tactical and Rescue Unit (TRU), and Canine Unit, the building was searched and cleared, with no individuals being located in the building.

Following an investigation by the Timmins Police Service Criminal Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Unit, along with an inventory completed by staff, it was determined that a quantity of air rifles and air guns were taken.

These items have not been recovered.

Additional property including several tools was also taken.

The approximate value of the items stolen from Canadian Tire is $2,300.

In relation to this incident, Harold NAKOGEE, 26, of Timmins faces charges of Break and Enter and Commit Indictable Offence (Theft), Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5,000, and Disguise with Intent.

Nakogee was further charged in relation to two additional incidents at local retailers.

On June 10, 2015, at approximately 5:45 a.m., a Break & Enter occurred at an electronics retailer on Riverside Drive.

Once access was gained to the store, several items were taken including cellular and electronics devices.

Other items were damaged during the incident.

The estimated value of the stolen property is approximately $6,700.

In relation to this incident, NAKOGEE is further charged with Break and Enter and Commit Indictable Offence (Theft), Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000, and Mischief under $5,000.

On June 26, 2015, an attempt Break and Enter occurred at another retail outlet on Riverside Drive.

In this incident, entry was gained to the store; however the suspect quickly retreated when confronted by night staff.

This incident also involved another individual who allegedly waited outside while the suspect gained access to the building.

In relation to this incident, NAKOGEE is charged with Break and Enter with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence, and Possession of Break-In Instruments.

Bryan TOMAGATICK, 22, of Timmins was also charged with Break and Enter with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence and two counts of Failure to Comply with a Probation Order.

NAKOGEE was held for bail, with a court date scheduled for July 2, 2015.

TOMAGATICK was released on a Promise to Appear with a court date scheduled for August 18, 2015.
