Out of Province

Ontario firefighters and overhead staff in Alberta are being positioned in the wildfire management areas across the northern sectors of the province including Slave Lake, White Court, Peace River and High Level.

Some are being assigned to active fires and some are deployed to respond to new fire starts.

The McClain Incident Management Team has been assigned to a fire.

New Fires

Since May 23, nine new fires have been confirmed in the region.

Of these, Bancroft 5 and Sudbury 19 are still active at 2.2 hectares and 0.1 hectares respectively.

Forest Fire Hazard Levels

The forest fire hazard currently ranges from moderate to extreme throughout the region, with a majority of the region experiencing a high or extreme hazard.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry advises those planning to enjoy outdoor activities to exercise caution when using fire.

People are reminded that under the Ontario Forest Fires Prevention Act they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines for burning brush and grass.

Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
