Results from Colleges Ontario’s annual Key Performance Indicator (KPI) survey reveal that for the fifth consecutive year, Northern College graduates are more satisfied with their education and more likely to find work within six months of graduation than the average Ontario college graduate.

Colleges Ontario published the 2014 – 2015 academic year KPI survey results for all 24 of Ontario’s publicly-funded colleges Wednesday.

The KPI survey measures a range of factors, including each college’s student satisfaction, graduate satisfaction, the employment rate of students six months after graduation, and the how satisfied employers are with their recent graduate hires.

Of the Northern College graduates that responded to this year’s KPI survey, 82.6 percent reported being either satisfied or very satisfied with the quality of their education, which was higher than the provincial average.

With a graduate employment rate of 86 percent, Northern grads were more likely than their provincial peers to find work within six months of graduation.

“We have enjoyed higher-than-average graduate employment and graduate satisfaction rates for five years running, which is a testament to the quality of the education we provide,” says Fred Gibbons, President of Northern College. “These statistics clearly illustrate that Northern College is an excellent choice for students in Ontario, which can lead to real career opportunities.”

Of current Northern College students who participated in the survey, 74.7 percent reported being either satisfied or very satisfied with their experience at the college, a growth of 1.7 percent over last year.

This is reflective of an ongoing trend, with the college’s student satisfaction scores improving every year for the past four years.

“Enhancing the student experience has been one of my ongoing objectives since I began my role with Northern,” says Dr. Audrey J. Penner, Vice President, Academic and Student Success at Northern College. “We’ve made significant strides outside of the classroom this year. Now, we’re turning our focus inside the classroom, and are examining all aspects of our curriculum and program delivery to see where we can improve. While this process is just getting started, we’re confident that it will lead to continued growth in student satisfaction moving forward.”
