TOWN OF KAPUSKASING

*************************
KAPUSKASING – Mayor Alan Spacek was a guest speaker at the recent Beef Farmers of Ontario 2015 Annual General Meeting.

Spacek showcased the Kapuskasing opportunity to the more than 500 delegates in attendance, including Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Minister Jeff Leal and Aboriginal Affairs Minister David Zimmer.

Kapuskasing is situated within the Great Clay Belt, the largest undeveloped tract of land in North America, and is also home to the 850 acre experimental farm.

The Town of Kapuskasing is currently in the final stages of acquiring the federal experimental farm.

“We see the farm as an economic development tool that will position Kapuskasing to benefit from the increased activity in farming,” says Mayor Alan Spacek. “The Beef Farmers of Ontario’s Northern Beef Expansion plan is a major economic opportunity for Northern Ontario.”

The opportunity occurs at a time when Ontario beef products are in high demand across Canada and the world.

“The Premier has challenged the agri-food industry to create 120,000 jobs by the year 2020, and by working with key stakeholders such as the Beef Farmers of Ontario, Kapuskasing can and wants to make a contribution,” adds Spacek.
