$1,183 Raised for Timmins and District Hospital During Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Janna Cook, Executive Director, Timmins and District Hospital Foundation attended one of Timmins’ newest hotels for a cheque presentation on Tuesday, December 16, 2014.

John Crescenzi, General Manager, Holiday Inn Express & Suites and Brigitte Vanderloo, Sales Manager, Holiday Inn Express & Suites presented Ms. Cook with a cheque in the amount of $1,183.36 for the hospital’s new Breast Wellness Centre.

The Holiday Inn Express & Suites held its second annual “Pink Ribbon Suite” Campaign during the month of October to raise awareness about breast cancer and raise funds for the Timmins and District Hospital’s new Breast Wellness Centre.

The room rate was not increased for the fundraiser; however, a portion of the revenue from the “Pink Ribbon Suite” was donated to the TADH Foundation for the Breast Wellness Centre.

The campaign transformed one of the hotel’s Jacuzzi suites into a pink wonderland with custom-made pink products for the guests.

The king-sized bed boasts pink king-sized pillows, accent pillows, a bed skirt, all hand-made by the hotel’s Executive Housekeeper’s mother with donations from Fabricland.

Lori’s Sewing Place hand-made a custom pink-ribbon throw.

Guests were treated to a delicious large gingersnap cookie donated by Vicki D’Amours Specialty Cakes and a pink-themed gift bag from Shoppers Drug Mart (Algonquin Blvd E and Hwy 655).

“We know there are many causes that one can support within the local community,” stated John Crescenzi, General Manager, Holiday Inn Express & Suites. “This is one where our visiting guests can feel as though, they too, are making a positive impact by supporting a cause while enjoying a comfortable nights’ rest ,” added Crescenzi.

“We just love this original Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign put on by the Holiday Inn Express & Suites and we are truly grateful that they have chosen to keep the funds in the community by supporting our local hospital,” stated Janna Cook, Executive Director, TADH Foundation.

“Today’s donation, along with the $749.54 we received from last year’s campaign, and $500.00 cash plus two prizes of one-night’s stay in one of the suites for the John P. Larche Charity Golf Classic bring the hotel’s total contribution to our Breast Wellness Centre to almost $3,000.00,” added Cook.

“We were very pleased to be able to be able to increase our donation from last year,” stated Brigitte Vanderloo, Sales Manager, Holiday Inn Express & Suites.

“More guests wanted to get involved this year and that sparked the idea of pink ribbon cookies. Everyday staff members freshly baked chocolate chip cookies and decorated them with pink ribbon icing, which we then sold in the lobby. Every department of the hotel was able to get involved this year, making it a real source of pride for us all,” continued Vanderloo.

From the James Bay coast to Engleheart, from Hearst to Kirkland Lake, Timmins and District Hospital is the beating heart of a vast, beautiful and vibrant region.

We hold the well-being of over 115,000 people in our hands...and they, in turn, hold our fate in theirs.

As the largest hospital in Northeast Ontario, TADH is poised on the brink of a new era in healthcare for this region.

To meet the growing and changing needs of the families we serve, the facilities and equipment of our hospital must be renewed.

Not years from now, but now. Outdated, cramped, with an aging building and obsolete equipment, TADH is long past due for a revitalization that will enable us to take our District’s healthcare into the 21st century.
