Taxi driver threatened with knife, two teens arrested

Two youths are facing charges following an early morning robbery in Timmins.

At approximately 1 a.m. on November 25, 2014, police received a report that two individuals entered a taxi and threatened the driver, brandishing a knife.

After the driver fled the vehicle, the vehicle was taken.

The vehicle was recovered by police a short time later.

Timmins Police officers quickly began a search for the two suspects.

Along with successful perimeter containment by Timmins Police officers, members of the Ontario Provincial Police’s K- 9 unit attended to conduct a K-9 track. As a result of the work of the TPS and OPP officers, the two suspects were located and apprehended.

The Timmins Police Service would like to thank the Ontario Provincial Police for their assistance in providing a K-9 unit, and recognize the quick containment efforts by responding TPS officers.

Two female youths, aged 13 and 17, of Timmins, now face various charges including robbery, theft, and possession of stolen property.

Pursuant to the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the names of the youths cannot be released.
