KIRKLAND LAKE - The Honourable Greg Rickford, Canada’s Minister of Natural Resources and Minister for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario (FedNor), today announced an investment to help support tourism, jobs, growth and prosperity throughout Northern Ontario.
The investment of $500,000 will enable Northern College to complete infrastructure upgrades to the auditorium at its Kirkland Lake campus.
Specifically, the funding will be used to construct a new lighting and sound booth, purchase new equipment, as well as install new floors and seating.
Once completed, the auditorium will feature the amenities and increased capacity required to attract world-class entertainment to the area, leading to enhanced tourism and economic growth throughout the region.

- The funding announced today is provided through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, which supports projects that promote sustainable community economic development, enhance business development and growth, and facilitate innovation throughout the region.
- Since 2006, through FedNor’s Northern Ontario Development Program, the Harper Government has invested $329 million in support of more than 1,600 projects. These investments have supported more than 21,500 jobs throughout Northern Ontario.
