KAPUSKASING - During an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) led investigation on October 27, 2014, the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB)-Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) assisted by the Kapuskasing OPP, the Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) Drug Unit and OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) intercepted and supressed drug trafficking activities in Kapuskasing, Ontario.

During the execution of two Search Warrants at separate residences located on Mateev Avenue and Bowman Avenue in the town of Kapuskasing, OPP officers arrested two men and seized a cash of illicit drugs, two motor vehicles and a firearm without incident.  

As a result of a coordinated police effort, an estimated street value of $47,000 of Cannabis Marijuana, $17,500 of Cannabis Resin, a passenger vehicle, a pickup truck and a prohibited firearm were seized from the involved residences. 

The accused, 42-year-old male, Paul COTE of Kapuskasing, Ontario, has been charged with two counts of Drug possession for the purpose of trafficking, two counts of Trafficking Schedule II Substance- Cannabis Marihuana over 3 kilograms contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA) and one count of Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.

He was held for a bail hearing but was later released from police custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on December 15, 2014.

The second male, Michael GOODCHILD, 26, of Kapuskasing was charged with one count of Possession of a Schedule II substance- Cannabis Marijuana - under 30 grams, contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA).

He has also been released from custody and is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Kapuskasing on November 24, 2014.
