Five officers from the Timmins Police Service were commended by Chief John Gauthier on Wednesday, October 29, for their work in incidents which occurred earlier this year.

On February 23, 2014, police received a call regarding a male who was in distress in the area of the Lafleur bridge.

The male was attempting to jump into traffic and later threatened to jump from the bridge.

Officers arrived on scene and began communicating with the individual.

Police were able to reason with the individual and he was safely apprehended and transported to hospital.

Officers commended for this incident are Cst. Kevin Drynan, Cst. Reg Carrière and Cst. Matthew Beerman.

On February 25, 2014, police received a call regarding a male in distress at a residence.

Officers attended the scene and attempted to begin communication with the male.

Officers were able to gain access to the individual, who was then unconscious.

Police were able to revive the male, and he was transported to hospital by EMS.

Officers commended for their involvement in this incident are Cst. Réné Paillé, Cst. Reg Carrière, Cst. Darren McGaghran, and Cst. Matthew Beerman.

On March 3, 2014, officers responded to a call at Timmins & District Hospital, regarding a male in distress.

Officers attended the scene and located the male, who had, at one point, climbed over the third floor railing and was threatening to jump.

Officers began negotiating with the individual, in an attempt to pursuede him back over the railing.

When it became apparent that the male’s intent was to jump from the balcony, Cst. Réné Paillé intervened, and was able to pull the individual to safety.

Along with a commendation from Chief Gauthier, Cst. Paillé received praise in a letter written by hospital staff, thanking him for his quick-thinking actions.
