STRATHCONA SOLAR

***************************
The Town of Cobalt, Canada’s Historical Silver Capital, now collecting energy from the sun and investing in its future.

Solaire Cobalt Solar, an incorporated business enterprise owned jointly by the Towns of Cobalt and Kapuskasing, will commence construction of its solar projects under the Ontario FIT 2.1 program.

Strathcona Solar Initiatives, an Ontario based, vertically integrated solar provider with operations in northern Ontario, has installed multiple municipal FIT projects within other northern communities and is well experienced to construct and maintain each of the three Cobalt sites consisting of two located on decommissioned landfill sites and a third at the town’s lagoon site.

The three sites will produce a combined output of more than 600 kilowatts and serve as a consistent revenue stream for the next twenty years.

Mayor Tina Sartoretto stated that “The Town of Cobalt is pleased to be working with the Town of Kapuskasing to develop the solar projects. These projects are very important as it represents a significant revenue source for the Municipality which in turn will provide an opportunity to take on some long awaited projects. The benefits are long term and will position Cobalt for the future.”

Kapuskasing has been partnering with municipalities across the Province to develop solar projects and has been pleased to see so many communities benefit from a program that provides a new long-term source of revenues.

“Undertaking a proactive approach and developing new partnerships in this environment of increased costs and less revenues from traditional sources is of benefit to municipalities”, said Mayor Alan Spacek. “We are pleased to be project partners with the Town of Cobalt and look forward to working collaboratively to commence construction of these solar projects.”
