Police chase leads to arrest

In the early morning hours of Thursday, October 23, 2014, police received a call regarding a traffic complaint in the east end of the city.

The complainant reported a vehicle driving erratically in the area of South Porcupine.

Officers located the vehicle, and attempted to affect a traffic stop; however the suspect failed to pull over, and engaged police in a suspect apprehension pursuit.

The driver continued westbound on Highway 101, toward Timmins, travelling at excessive rates of speed.

When officers attempted to block the roadway in order to stop the vehicle, the driver attempted to strike the police vehicles and continued westbound, striking a road sign in the area of Algonquin Boulevard and Highway 655.

Police were able to stop the vehicle in the area of Rea Street North and Polaris Avenue.

Police apprehended the suspect, who is now in custody. Charges are pending.

During the course of the pursuit, the suspect deliberately struck three police vehicles, causing significant damage and rendering two police vehicles inoperable.
