Timmins Police Service says a search near Highway 655 continues today and is expected to carry on into tomorrow.

No information is being released about what officers and search and rescue volunteers are looking for, or what prompted the search other than an ongoing investigation.

The search is being described as 'evidence-based.'

The area in question is inaccessable to the public, and members of the public are being asked to stay out of the area.

TPS spokesperson Kate Cantin said police do not believe there is a danger to the public.

"Police have no reason to believe that public safety is an issue at this time," said Cantin.

The search is being conducted north of Algonquin near Highway 655 with assistance from Ontario Provincial Police and volunteers from Timmins Porcupine Search and Rescue.
