Fatal collision closes Highway 11 (Updated: Highway reopened)

HEARST, ON – Shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Hearst Detachment responded to a fatal collision involving two commercial motor vehicles (CMV) on Highway 11 in McCoig Twp, approximately 80 kilometers west of Hearst.

Responding officers attended the scene and Highway 11 was closed as a result while Emergency Medical Services (EMS) rendered medical assistance to the involved occupants. 

Longlac Fire Department also attended to assist and extinguish a fire ignited during the collision.  

The driver, a 20-year-old male, of Mississauga, Ontario, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. 

His passenger, a 52-year-old male, of Hamilton, Ontario was air lifted to a Toronto hospital with life threatening injuries.

The driver of the other transport, 52-year-old male, of Montreal, Quebec was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Members with the OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigation (TTCI) are currently investigating the cause of the collision.

Highway 11 remains closed until further notice.

Names of the involved parties are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
