Quebeckers hope Britain delivers as Scotland votes no

A Canadian Press report says prominent Quebec sovereigntists hope the United Kingdom lives up to "extensive new powers" promised to Scotland if its citizens voted 'No' to independence.

A Canadian Press report says prominent Quebec sovereigntists hope the United Kingdom lives up to "extensive new powers" promised to Scotland if its citizens voted 'No' to independence.

Fifty-five per cent of Scots who cast ballots in Thursday's referendum chose not to break their country's 307-year-old union with the United Kingdom.

"They voted no because to some extent they were promised some more powers or some more devolution, so I guess it's up to the No camp now to prove that they will abide by their promises," said Daniel Turp, a Quebec Yes side campaigner who travelled to Scotland for that nation's vote.
