Fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 11

TEMISKAMING SHORES - On August 31, 2014 shortly after 7 a.m. members of the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a tractor trailer and a Pontiac Aztek (SUV).

The tractor trailer was southbound and the SUV was northbound when the head on collision occurred on Highway 11 north of Hanbury Road.

The driver and single occupant of the SUV, Derek Horner 35, of Harley Township was pronounced dead at the scene. 

There were two occupants in the tractor trailer. 

They were transported to the hospital by the Temiskaming Ambulance. 

The driver, Gagandeep Rhal 27, of Toronto sustained no injuries and passenger Harvinder Bajarh, 30, of Milton sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Also on scene is the Harley Fire Department. 

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting with the ongoing investigation.  

Highway 11 has been closed in both directions as the investigation into the collision continues. 

The estimated duration of road advisory is unavailable at this time.

A detour is available at Highway 65 West south of the collision to Highway 571 north of the collision.
