Hearst resident charged in child luring investigation

HEARST - A child luring investigation led to charges for a 35-year-old in Hearst. 

James Bay OPP received a call about a person sending messages of a sexual nature to youth in the Hearst area on May 1.

Four of the five victims identified by police are under the age of 18.

A search warrant was executed at a Veilleux Street resident in Hearst on May 2 around 2 p.m. Firearms, ammunition, computers, cell phones, an external hard drive, suspected MDMA (ecstasy) and methamphetamine, and Canadian cash were seized by police.

To protect the identity of the victims, the name of the accused is not being released. A 35-year-old from Hearst is charged with: 

  • 4 counts of make sexually explicit material available to a person under 18 years of age
  • 2 counts of luring a person under 18 years of age by means of telecommunication
  • Corrupting children
  • Make intimate image available without consent
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - other drug
  • 2 counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Careless storage of a firearm or ammunition
  • 4 counts of knowingly supply liquor to a person under 19 years of age
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000

The accused is waiting for a bail hearing in Hearst. 

None of the charges have been tested in court and the accused is considered innocent unless proven guilty.
